Fashion industry and its impact on the environment

As we know today people are really crazy about new fashion trends, fashion does not remain the same as it changes frequently. Revenue in the Fashion Market globally is projected to increase tremendously in 2024.
But for this we are paying huge as it badly affects the environment.

  1. This industry is responsible for Carbon emissions around 11% globally, wasting many resources and the millions of clothes ending up in landfills every day.
  2. As millions of wastes are produced in this industry every year, Fashion waste is expected to glide up in millions by the end of the decade.
  3. If required action is not taken to reduce this unwanted waste then total waste will be doubled in coming years and all the garbage trucks will be full of clothes and as a result landfills will be occupied by this waste.
  4. As clothes are thrown away by its user if same recycled then millions of wastage can be avoided. People don’t repeat clothes often, so throwing away the same is increasing.
  5. Water wastage is also prevelant in this industry as the process of dyeing and finishing is done many chemicals are applied to give perfect colour. It makes litres of water wastage , which in turn can be drunk by a person for so many years.
  6. As microplastics are used in the garments and made of cheap material, washing of these clothes produces microfilaments that move through our drainage or sewage systems and end up in rivers or other waterways which contaminates the water which is more dangerous than plastic bottles.
  7. Increase in production is also causing wastage as many left out pieces after making the garments are thrown away which leads to many problems.

Therefore this industry is not only increasing in millions but also harming the environment by depletion of resources and polluting water simultaneously.
