Employer Employee Relationship and the Role of AI

In order to understand the core relationship between Employer and Employee, we have to dig down in the core elements of Human Resource Management. These elements are as follows:-

  1. Recruitment and Selection – This is first stage of induction of an employee.
  2. Learning and Development – This is advanced stage for employees’ overall development.
  3. Succession Planning- The organization has to keep on working on this, especially around the time of retirement of employees. It has to be reviewed on quarterly basis.
  4. Remuneration and benefits- For long-term retention of employees, this is the critical part which should be reviewed on at least yearly basis.

Simply put, if all the above are in order then employee turnover ratio in an organization is low. However, this is still the traditional method of management. In the ever-growing role of Artificial Intelligence, shape shifting is done in these roles too.

As we all know that AI is supposed to take various jobs in the upcoming decade. These jobs range from Receptionist to Retail to Accountant. So, of course the rift between employer and employee is bound to increase.

So how employers can manage this rift is a question mark. Let us discuss key points on this:

  1. Making employees aware of benefits of AI.
  2. Giving learning sessions to employees on use of AI for better performance.
  3. Incentivizing those who perform better on new technology.
  4. Motivating employees to do job rotation.
  5. Paid leave policy to those who enrolled to learn AI on their own for job betterment.
  6. Periodic team building and soft skills sessions.
  7. Sensitizing senior employees (who resist the most to any changes) in an empathetic manner.

There are various other ways through which this challenge can be overcome. However, all of it depends upon on the organization’s view about its employees. It all depends upon whether employer considers employee as its asset or liability.
