Staffing means manning various jobs in the organisation with the right person. Well staffing is key to other managerial functions, injects life into an enterprise, builds sound organisation and create human asset.

  1. Manpower requirement- Estimating the manpower requirement in the organisation is the first step, this is done on the basis of work load analysis and work force analysis.
  2. Recruitment – This is a process of searching for prospective employees and stimulating them to apply for jobs in the organisation.
  3. Selection – It is the process of choosing from among the pool of candidates created at recruitment stage. It helps to ensure that the organisation gets the best among available.
  4. Placement and Orientation – Placement refers to the employee occupying the post for which he has been selected .Orientation is the process of introducing the selected employee to other employees and familiarising him with the policies and rules of the organisation.
  5. Training and development- Training is the process of upgrading the knowledge and skills of the employees so that they can perform their job better. Development is the process of overall growth of employees.

However performance appraisal, career planning and promotion are also the part of staffing process.
