Data security means using such a technology or tools which can protect or safeguard digital information from being theft or stopping an unauthorised access to companies database websites etc. A hack or loss of data can result in customers losing trust in an organisation and as a consequence it can cause risk of financial losses, legal payments, take overs of business by competitors etc.
Some practices which are effective for an organisation in data security are:
- Secure your information from unauthorised access and Encrypting your data so that only people who need it, has access to see information.
- Educating your employees about threats and preparing them in advance and using good management and recovery plans helps in data security.
- Data erasure, if you don’t need data you can erase from the system so that it can’t be used or breached by hackers and as a result using it for their profit.
- Data masking or covering is mostly used by organisations for hiding data by replacing it with the specific letters as a code. It can only be used by someone who has code.
- Creating backups or copying data can mitigate the risk of accidental destruction or loss of data, it is important during data breach or ransomware attack.
